The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is reportedly opening an investigation into Sony’s Bungie Acquisition.
According to the sources, FTC started an investigation last week and this investigation would take time to close up to six months or it could be pushed into early 2023.
Why FTC Investing Sony’s Bungie Acquisition?
The FTC is mainly focused on concerns that Sony might be don’t allow the cross-platform of Bungie games for their competitive companies like Xbox.
FTC wants to examine how popular Bungie’s Destiny franchise is and if Sony restrictions for other platforms then it would harm the competitors and create antitrust violations.
But Sony has already publically announced they are keeping Bungie games for cross-platform.
Sony’s Bungie Acquisition under investigation by the FTC shows that FTC takes aggressive actions against antitrust violations in the gaming industry.
Over the last 2 years in the gaming industry, many big companies make big deals for gaming acquisitions and these deals make concerns about antitrust violations in this gaming industry.
Is FTC Investigation Meaningful?
According to me, this investigation doesn’t meaningfully impact Sony’s Bungie Acquisition.
Because if FTC wants to block the acquisition then they required a legel challenge to block it.
But FTC’s this action will be the alert for future acquisitions by many companies.
We all know that many big companies are interested in adding the small companies and making a strong gaming industry.
Before Sony’s Bungie Acquisition investigation FTC also investigated the acquisition of Activision Blizzard By Microsoft.
I hope this Investigation report will favor the gaming industry.
